13 & 14 May 2010

I stayed in the office and learnt more about load,capacitor bank and earth pipe.

  • load is a measure taken from an equipment that has voltage coil or a motor (such as a compressor)
  • capacitor bank is used to collect current (extra/wasted) to avoid current loss.
  • earth pipe is a kind of metal (copper) which is about 7 ft. length, located underground. Earth pipe is used to avoid accident and save properties if electric trip happens.
12 May 2010
I followed En Wahi and En Yakob teams again. We set up LPC meter like yesterday but there are 4 meters today. It is a new factory with 4 blocks in Jalan Perusahaan 1 in Parit Hulu Industrial Area.

  1. The connection for LPC meter : Tx->bus bar->current Tx->test terminal block->LPC mater
  2. For the current Tx or CT, we must put its side labelled 'S1' as the bus bar is going in it and going out from its side labelled 'S2'. CT is made of copper coil; function to change voltage in the bus bar.
  3. The test terrminal block has 2 parts: current and voltage parts. The voltage part is covered because it is a high voltage side.
11 May 2010
I followed En. Wahi and En. Yakob teams to Bakri Industrial Area. A factory had problems about the electricity supply. They claimed that TNB doesn'nt supply enough electricity. The Foremen, En. Samzaini took the reading at the meter by using a multimeter. The result are (take phase-to-neutral wire):
  1. R=213 V
  2. Y=215V
  3. B=223V

With the result, it shows that TNB supplies enough electricity to the factory. For single phase, TNB supplies 230 V +- 6%.

Then, we went to new build Police Apartment to set up LPC meters. The setting up of LPC here were challenging because the work space is small.
